El presente estudio se llevó a cabo teniendo en cuenta el alcance del convenio definido en junio de 1980 entre las dos partes; investigación preliminar y negociación entregada por el gobierno Japonés, y el INGEOMINAS. El área de estudio se extiende a 1.000 Km2, el largo del total de la exploración a 540 km, y muestras colectadas de sedimientos de corrientes alrededor de 1.425.
